Top 10 manufacturing companies in Poland

The Polish manufacturing industry is not slowing down. We hear about new investments all the time – not only local ones, but also those from abroad. In addition, there are increasingly better methods of taking care of equipment and machines. What does this mean? We have really solid companies in the country that only produce fuel and energy, as well as entities that operate in the mining, automotive and electronics industries. Who is at the forefront? And why is the CMMS system not a luxury today, but a necessity?

CMMS – a system that keeps everything in check

Large manufacturing plants have to handle a lot. Full-speed production, avoiding downtime, controlling costs – does that sound familiar? In order not to go crazy, more and more companies are reaching for CMMS, or computerized maintenance management system. What does it give you?

  • Maintenance planning – with CMMS you can schedule maintenance so that it doesn’t disrupt your production schedule.
  • Machine condition monitoring – the system tracks the condition of equipment and warns when something starts to fail.
  • Parts inventory under control – thanks to CMMS, there are no situations like: “we don’t have this screw, we have to wait a week”.
  • Data and reports – and when it comes time for strategic decisions? Then CMMS provides specific data – not predictions.

It’s easy to imagine a scenario like this: a production line suddenly stops because one of the gears seized up. Without a system? Searching for the cause, replacing parts without a plan, wasted time. With CMMS? The notification comes before a failure occurs, the parts are already in stock, and the technician receives a specific checklist. Thanks to this, the repair time is even several times shorter.

And this is just the beginning. The CMMS system is software with great potential in this area. In modern versions of CMMS, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and failure prediction come into play. These are further solutions that support reducing the number of failures and are already used by manufacturing companies in Poland.

Ranking of the largest producers – who deals the cards?

According to the latest ranking by Gazeta Finansowa (June 2024), the podium among the giants is dominated by energy and fuel companies. The leader is still Orlen with revenues of over PLN 372 billion. Next is Jeronimo Martins (owner of Biedronka) with a result almost four times lower – PLN 98 billion.

The leaders also include PGE, Enea, Tauron, Energa, as well as stores like Lidl, Dino, and Eurocash. Interestingly, banks and insurers also appear – but today we are focusing on production. Here are the top ten, taking into account only production companies. Importantly, this group also includes energy and fuel producers.

1. PKN Orlen SA – a fuel colossus

Orlen is a manufacturing giant that has been the largest company in Poland for a long time. Fuels, chemicals, energy – all in one. Refineries in Płock, Włocławek and Jedlicze are constantly operating at full speed. However, Orlen has no plans to slow down. The coming years are marked by clean energy – the investment project “Hydrogen Eagle” focuses on hydrogen energy and has not only local but also European ambitions.

2. PGE – the energy king

The largest electricity supplier in Poland. Production, distribution, sales – the whole package. Although recent years have been financially difficult, PGE still holds high in the ranking. The company also invests heavily in offshore and photovoltaics.

3. Enea – energy in western Poland

Enea is another powerhouse in the electricity industry, particularly active in western Poland. The company’s profile is very similar to PGE, but Enea focuses on western Poland. The company also has its own energy sources and modern operational centers.

4. LG Energy Solution Wrocław – Korea in the heart of Lower Silesia

This LG division operates mainly for the automotive industry. The Wrocław lines produce lithium-ion batteries for electric cars. Interesting fact – it is the largest plant of this type in Europe. Yes, not only in Poland.

5. Tauron – the energy leader of the south

Małopolska, Silesia and the surrounding areas – this is Tauron’s territory. Like Enea and PGE, the company supplies electricity, but also invests a lot in new technologies and automation of energy systems.

6. ArcelorMittal Poland – the steel heart of the country

Plants in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Kraków and Świętochłowice, among others. They produce steel in very large quantities, employing thousands of people. It is also worth knowing that it is the largest steel producer in Poland and a pillar of many infrastructure investments.

7. KGHM – copper, silver and more

Polska Miedź is one of the largest producers of copper and silver in the world. Mines, smelters, foreign investments – it is a significant player that has been at the forefront of the European mining industry for years.

8. Energa – energy in the north of Poland

The company mainly serves Pomerania and central Poland. Stable growth, large expenditures on renewable energy and smart grid drive the development of Enea. They implement CMMS to manage infrastructure and mobile teams.

9. BP Europe – the Polish branch of an international giant

BP Europe, although British in origin, has a strong base in Poland. In addition to fuels, the company invests in EV chargers and renewable energy. The Polish headquarters is located in Krakow and is an important point on the logistics map of the region.

10. Volkswagen Poznań – cars made by Poles

An important player in the delivery vehicle market. It is one of the most modern plants of the concern in Europe – and year by year it increases production. VW Poznań produces, among others, the Caddy and T6.1, which are sold all over the world – from Europe to Australia.

Energy, automotive, technology – Poland is growing stronger

Analyzing this top ten, it is easy to notice two things: the energy sector reigns supreme, and the automotive industry is hot on its heels. But the key question is: how do these companies maintain such a scale of production? The answer: consistent management, automation and digital solutions. CMMS systems have become an indispensable support here – without them, it is difficult to talk about efficiency today.

What’s next?

The trends are clear: AI, failure prediction, digital twins, full automation. Companies that already use CMMS are a step ahead of the competition. Because in the future, it won’t be enough to “fix quickly” – you’ll have to predict and prevent before something happens. Manufacturing 4.0 is not a theory – it’s everyday life.

Large manufacturing companies not only earn billions, but also set the direction of development for the entire industry. Their success is no accident – it is the result of investment, innovation and a well-managed technical background. And CMMS? It is like a manager who does not sleep – makes sure that nothing breaks down. And thanks to it, the largest companies can move forward without major disruptions.

FAQ

Analyzing the ranking, the dominance of the energy and fuel sector is clearly visible . Examples include the leader PKN Orlen , as well as PGE, Enea and Tauron . The mining sector with KGHM (copper and silver) and the metallurgical sector with ArcelorMittal Poland (steel) are also visible .

The future of manufacturing companies in Poland, including market leaders, is strongly linked to trends such as artificial intelligence (AI), failure prediction, digital twins and full automation . Companies that are already investing in CMMS systems have an advantage because they are better prepared to implement these advanced technologies. The goal is to move from reacting to failures to predicting and preventing them, which is key in the concept of Industry 4.0 .

The use of touch screens in ANDON systems brings tangible benefits, such as reducing the number of errors thanks to step-by-step user guidance, increasing employee engagement through easy access to the system, improving communication on the shop floor thanks to shared access to current data, and accelerating decision-making through quick access to information about problems and their status.
